TRANSNORTHERN’S
SUPER DC-3 is powered by Wright 1820-80B 9 Cylinder Radial Engines.
Gross
Takeoff weight is approximately 31,000 lbs. Empty weight of
the aircraft equipped for 19 passengers is just over 20,000
pounds for a useful load of 11,000 pounds.
Operating
under FAA Rules for Part 135 Air Carriers, TNA may operate the
aircraft with a payload of up to 7,500 pounds. What this means
to the customer is that we can carry your full payload with
plenty of room for round trip fuel to most Alaskan destinations.
For planning purposes, use 120 gallons fuel burn per hour and
200 mph (175 knots). The base rate for the aircraft is $1,575
per block hour wet (based on $3.00 /gal fuel). Total available
Fuel capacity is 1,600 gallons in the wings and the aircraft
can be operated with an additional Internal Tanks for fuel hauling
operations. In the Cargo Configuration the aircraft has 1,589
cubic feet of freight capacity. Its main doors open to
5 feet high by 7 feet high for easy loading of oversize freight,
including small cars, skid loaders, lumber, etc. Check
our loading chart for
specific sizes.
Ground
run for a standard day at gross takeoff weight aircraft is 2,090
feet. Takeoff Over 50’ obstacle is 3,490 feet. The aircraft
is equipped with large tires and can handle considerably softer
runways than any other twin aircraft operating in Alaska. Click here to see a movie clip of our Super departing Kasliuk with a 5,800 lb load for STG Construction.
Because
the aircraft was designed for up to 42 passengers, our 19-passenger
configuration provides excellent legroom, a superb view and
room for ALL the baggage that lodge-goers may want to carry.
